History and its use



Rhus verniciflua Stokes (RVS, Lacquer Tree) is a species in the family Anacardiaceae that grows in East Asia. RVS is widely known as a lacquer tree because its sap is used to make a highly durable natural lacquer that is used in the manufacture of natural lacquerware.


RVS has also been used as food ingredient, such as chicken soup, and various traditional herbal remedies in Korea since ancient times*(12).


As an old herbal remedy, a number of studies have revealed diverse biological functions of RVS, including anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, and blood circulation.* (12)
